On this day, May 6th…

1877, Chief Crazy Horse of the Oglala Sioux Indian tribe surrenders to U.S. Troops in Nebraska. He lived a very interested life before meeting a questionable demise in a Nebraska while trying to imprison him. Read more about him here—> Chief Crazy Horse

1889, the Eiffel Tower is officially opened in Paris to the public, it was built as an entrance way to the 1889 World’s Fair. The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world. I went there on a school trip in high school, I only went to the second level because the elevator wasn’t running, even from there the view was amazing.

1937, The German zeppelin Hindenberg catches fire and crashes in Lakehurst, New Jersey. The huge vessel was destroyed in one minute, 36 people died. I’ve attached a video of the event below.

1954, Roger Bannister became the first person to run the mile in under four minutes. Hicham El Guerrouj is the current men’s record holder with his time of 3:43.13.

1998, then 20 year-old Kerry Wood, of the Chicago Cubs, strikes out 20 batters in a nine inning game to tie Roger Clemens MLB record. Speaking of MLB, don’t forget to come see Doc Gooden, Jose Canseco, and more MLB legends at the Legends Night Super Show on this Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 pm at the Palace Theater. What’s Going on in Stafford? A Lot!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted! Well, that’s all about to change, as I take my proverbial head out of my ass! I’m back in the swing of things and excited about what’s going on in our beautiful home town. I’ll be busy for the next two week’s as the Stafford Bulldogs have had an amazing season!

All three teams not only made the playoffs but won their first round games. All games are at Fermi High in Enfield this Sunday: C-Team @ 10AM vs Tolland, A-Team @ 12PM vs Ellington, &  defending champion B-Team @ 2PM vs Enfield. We could use your support, good luck to all!

Also, tomorrow night at Middle Ground Cafe, local cartoonist & artist, Dave Mercier, will open his art show. This is a must see, and you can meet him tomorrow night between 6PM and 8PM. Also check out his website—> Mercworks.

Don’t forget about the amazing new Palace Theater, also located on Main St, who have an amazing schedule coming up. Next Friday will be Mike Delguidice and Big Shot, a Billy Joel tribute band! For tickets hit this link (tickets). Kate and I will be filming a show from there in the very near future.

The old Munn’s Pub is under new ownership and they’ve already made many improvements. It’s a lot of fun as I can attest to personally ;). Check out they’re Facebook page: Ric’s Cafe. I’ll chat with you soon.

Keep Stafford Beautiful

My wonderful children and I take many walks throughout the town of Stafford and unfortunately we encounter a lot of litter. The “Keep America Beautiful” video above was released in the seventies and is a classic, watch it. Stafford has many parks, sports fields, hiking trails, sidewalks, and playgrounds, is it too much to ask to keep them clean? It isn’t. My kids know if they see something on the ground that isn’t supposed to be there to pick it up and dispose of it properly, everyone of us should do the same. Every park and field in Stafford has an ample amount of trash receptacles, please use them. In the coming weeks, Kate and I will do a show in our town parks to display their beauty and talk to town employees on what we can do to preserve our local treasures. Do the right thing and keep Stafford beautiful. Don’t be a loser and litter.

New Year’s Resolutions

Vail family 2011

2012 is here and it’s time for us all to make some resolutions. Here are some top resolutions for 2012:

1. Losing weight.

I could definitely stand to do this. Maybe it’s time for Isagenix with my buddy Steve Munn again. If you are interested goto the ClearPoint Center website for more details.

2. Get organized.

This is also something I need to work on.

3. Help others.

This is a great resolution, there are lots of ways to do this one. Get more involved in local programs, call Stafford Social Services (860)684-4239 and find out what you can to to help local families and individuals. Donate time or money to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center like my buddy Chris Paradiso does, for more info call the office at (860)684-5270.

4. Save money and spend less.

Call me to save $$$ on your insurance!!! and spend less. (860)458-9366

5. Enjoy life to the fullest.

Follow your passions and go out and get it in 2012!

6. Staying Fit and Healthy

Go to the gym and work out. We have a great gym right here in Stafford, go to Body by Design and get back in shape!

7. Learn something new.

Watch the Kate & Kurt show every week and learn something new about Stafford.

8. Quit Smoking.

This is the best resolution of all. I lost two siblings to cancer, one who was an avid smoker. If you do smoke please make 2012 the year you quit. This one’s for you Heidi.

9. Falling in love.

I guess this one would be cool for those of us that are single, but to those who are already in love, work on making it even better.

10. Spend more time with friends and family.

You can’t go wrong with this one! Looking forward to a lot of great times with friends and my wonderful family, especially Hannah, Noah, Sarah, and the Vivster!

Kate & Kurt 2011

Well as 2011 comes to an end I just want to say thank you to everyone that contributed to the Kate & Kurt show. I never thought it would last this long, but I look forward to 2012 as the show is going to keep improving. I would like to thank Chris Paradiso for making this all possible but I would especially like to thank my very special friend, Kate Pisciotta who dedicates countless hours every week to filming, editing, and coming up with ideas for the show and maintaining the MyStaffordSprings website anf Facebook pages. Check out the amazing video below that she put together highlighting our shows from 2011. Enjoy and we’ll see you next year!

Kate & Kurt Dancing and Cows

Kate & Kurt in the Yurt

Kate meets and feeds her long lost cousin Moo Moo, Tocka does the weather, Hillary shows us her moves, and of course all the local Stafford news. It’s a great show, watch it below.
