If you are interested in doing a March Madness pool for 2014 please text or call me at (860)458-9266. All entrees need to be in by noon on Thursday. It will be $10 per sheet. Print the bracket below, fill it out, and either email it to email@example.com or call me and I will come get it from you. Kate and I started a new and fun activity for our myStaffordSprings supporters, it’s called “Find the Snail” scavenger hunt. A snail, like the one pictured above, will be hidden somewhere in Stafford and it’s up to you to find it. Clues will be given, the first person to find the snail will win a prize package. This week’s prize is a Paradiso Insurance t-shirt and a $10 gift card to Middle Ground Cafe. All the info is available on Facebook on the LIVE with Kate & Kurt page. Here’s this week’s clues….
1. People gathered near where I am many years ago to have a good time.
2. You might need to wash your car after you find me.
3. I’m located in the item that Mary Poppins boyfriend cleaned.
Thank you to Al Poulin, Chief of the West Stafford Fire Police, who gave us some safety tips and showed us around the fire department. We shot the rest of the show from our studios at 4 East Main St, please stop in and say hi if you’re walking by to go to the post office or to get an insurance quote from me at Paradiso Insurance!
Today is the second day of the ClearPoint Center Challenge, and I’m hungry! But it is bearable. I’m drinking a lot of water and everyone seems to being doing well. Tonight I’m going to have grilled chicken and vegitables with some brown rice. The Isagenix shakes are pretty tasty, check out the Isagenix cam video below to see our progress. Next time you should join us or goto http://clearpointcenter.com/ to do it on your own.
The 2011 football season is almost here and it’s my favorite time of year. Stafford Bulldogs youth football is looking forward to a great season. Our numbers are up from last year, and all the teams are looking to make the playoffs and compete for a championship. Coach Bernier’s Stafford High Bulldogs are returning a lot of starters from last year’s squad and look to have a winning record for the first time since the 1990’s. They are loaded with athletes so let’s make sure we are up there on Friday nights rooting them on.
UConn football is coming off it’s greatest season in history with a BCS bowl appearance. They have a new head coach in Paul Pasqualoni and are setting their sights very high this year as well. I, personally, had the priveledge of playing for Coach P at WCSU in 1986, and if anyone can keep the Huskies heading in the right direction it’s him.
After a preseason lockout, the NFL is finally ready to play some football. Make sure you play Coach Vail’s click your picks every week of the season and win some great prizes by picking the winners of each week’s games. Paradiso Insurance intern Kevin Smith and myself will be making the picks as well and sharing our thoughts on each week’s games plus a recap of all the local action each week. Please let me know who you think is going to win Superbowl XLVI this year.
Football season is here, finally, and practice has begun for the NCAA, NFL, and even for the Stafford Bulldogs youth football. High school practice begins next week. On a local level we are pretty optimistic at the youth and high school levels. I will be an assistant coach for the B-Team this year and my son Noah will be on the team. We will be starting “Coach Vail’s Click your Picks” for the first week of then NFL season.
It’s a fun competition that will take place every week where you pick the winners of the games and if you do well you can win prizes to local businesses. We had a great time with it last year and look to improve on it this year. I look forward to working with Paradiso Insurance intern and Stafford native Kevin Smith on making it bigger and better.
The highlight of the competition was shooting the videos with my picks for the week. We went to local businesses and asked local residents there opinions, it was fun. Check out two of the better videos that we did last year below. You can see all of the videos, the links are on the right side bar, stay tuned!
“Freakin Catalina Wine Mixer” from Stepbrothers was all I could think about on my way to the wine tasting event held at United Cleaning and Restoration in Middlefield, CT. Fred Nassiff, my colleague at Paradiso Insurance, and I were graciously invited by Jennifer Steinmiller to the event. The wine was great, the hors d’vours were tasty, and I met some magnificent people. The most impressive part of the night was the tour that we got from Jennifer of the United Cleaning and Restoration facility. This company is clean, professional, efficent, and has amazing state-of-the-art equipment to handle any job. Click on the link and check out their website. Thanks again to Jen and everyone at United for your hospitality!
One of the fastest growing sports over the last decade has been MMA fighting (Mixed Martial Arts), and it is very alive right here in Stafford Springs. Several young men from Stafford are well on their way to successful fighting careers in MMA. Mike Bartholomew, Jeff Haddad, the McLaughlin brothers, Mark and John, as well as Matt Bessette are all training hard everyday in hopes of one day fighting on a pay-per-view event.
Matt Bessette has already made some major strides in that direction with a 7 – 2 professional record and a four fight winning streak. In Matt’s last fight he defeated John Benoit at the Saugus Center in Lowell, MA to gain the GFL Lightweight title. Matt also holds the lightweight belt for Reality Fighting as well. Matt will be fighting again on October 8, 2011 at the Mohegan Sun, also on the card that night are two other Stafford fighters, John McLaughlin is taking on Jeff Haddad!
Make sure you mark your calenders as this is something all fight fans won’t want to miss and we need to go and support our local fighters. The myStaffordSprings crew (Kate Pisciotta) and I will be following Matt over the next several months leading upto his next fight, so stay tuned. Below is a video interview with Matt done on July 11, 2011. Watch it, and spread the word.
This week’s Live with Kate & Kurt was filmed on location from Mill Pond Country Store in Stafford Hollow.
