Kate & Kurt Stafford Shopping Plaza

Tebowing with Hillary and Kate

Kate and I shot this week’s show from the Big Y Plaza in Stafford. It is nice to see some new retail businesses come to town. We stopped by all the shops, Aubuchon Hardware, Family Dollar, Peeble’s, Dave’s Pet City, Express Wireless, and Friedrich’s Jewelers. We were going to finish our show over some pizza from Big Y but the manager quickly came over and wouldn’t allow us to shoot any footage. Typical corporate bullshit, I guess they don’t need free publicity. So we went to the Stafford Food Center or the Co-op as us old-school Staffordites call it, where we were greeted with open arms! Also, Kate talked Hillary and I into climbing up on the roof of the post office and Tebowing. I guess in honor of  Tim Tebow that people are immitating his sideline ritual, so that is the picture at the top of this post. Dance Break with Hillary was done on the roof as well and her and Kate don’t do well with heights. This was my favorite show yet, check it out! Merry Christmas!

Stafford’s Charles Lewandoski racing in Richmond

Charles Lewandoski

Stafford native Charles Lewandoski will be racing again this Friday night in the Nationwide Series in Richmond. He will be driving the Go Green #39 in the Bubba Burger 250 at Richmond International Speedway this Friday @ 7:30pm, televised on the Speed Channel. Chalew got his start right here at our very own Stafford Motor Speedway being the youngest driver to record a feature win at the age of 16 back in 2002. Despite his busy schedule, he took a few minutes to answer a few questions for me.

Kurt: “So far this year you’ve finished in the top 25 both times you’ve raced the complete race, what is your goal for this weekend in Richmond?”

Chalew: “Really, the main goal is to have a smooth and uneventful weekend and finish in the top 20. Any time you go on the track your goal is to win the race, but I think we’d be very happy with a top 20 finish.”

Kurt: “Have you ever raced at Richmond before?”

Chalew: “No. It’s a little tricky from what I’ve been told, but there are some similarities to tracks I’ve raced in the past, so I will try to piece together my experiences from two or three other tracks and that should help alittle.”

Kurt: “What makes Richmond different from the other races you’ve raced this year?”

Chalew: “It is a short track, anything under one mile is considered a short track, and the other races were a similar distance but obviously the shorter track has more laps. On the shorter track the driver has more input, on the bigger tracks has more to do with the car. I think it will be easier than my first time racing at California, which is two miles, because I’ve raced at short tracks all my life.”

Kurt: “You have a lot of support here in your home state. As you know racing kicks off this weekend in Stafford with the 40th Annual Spring Sizzler. Do you have any predictions?”

Chalew:”Sure, I’m hoping for Kyle Casagrande to win the Dare Stock, Limited Late Model, Cory (Casagrande). Ryan Posocco or Magnum Mike(Bennett) to win the Late Model. Ted Christopher to win the SK and Shayne Prucker to win SK Light. And I think Bobby Santos III is going to win the tour race.”

Kurt: “Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule and good luck Friday night.”

Chalew: “Thank you, and I’m going to try to make it home this weekend to see Kyle and Cory race, maybe I’ll see you down at the track.”

It’s going to be a big weekend in racing right here in Stafford. Go to staffordmotorspeedway.com for all the info and ticket prices. Sunday morning at 11:00am is a meet and greet with all the drivers and their cars in the infield that is included with the price of admission. It’s a great event as I can vouch for personally, my kids had a blast last year. I will be down there all day Sunday with my camera, so keep an eye out for me and be in my next Inside Line video. We got Chalew’s picks for this weekend, now tell me who you think is going to win and either win a $15 ticket voucher to Stafford Motor Speedway or a $10 gift card to Express Wireless, just click this link ——–> Sizzler Survey. The History of the Superbowl

Green Bay

Pittsburgh

Congratulations to the Packers and the Steelers on their victories last weekend, and also congratulations to Ben K. and Jamie T. for picking them. They both won $10 gift cards to Express Wireless. Thanks again to our friends at Judy’s Country Store, Express Wireless, and Basil’s Restaurant who participated in the Coach Vail’s click your picks video last week. A lot them picked it right.

I thought with the Superbowl coming up I’d post a brief history of the game’s origins and all the results of every Superbowl. All the information was gathered at http://www.superbowlhistory.net/superbowl/scores.php. It’s interesting info, check out how your team has done over the years.

Both teams in Superbowl XLV have storied pasts. Green Bay has been in four Superbowls, winning three and losing one. They won the first two Superbowls ever, under Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi, and went to back to back Superbowls in the nineties giving Brett Favre is only Superbowl victory.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the winningest team in Superbowl history, having won six times while losing only once. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (2 wins) in trying to catch up to his legendary predecessor Terry Bradshaw (4 wins) in all time Superbowl wins. It should be a great game. Stay tuned for information and more “click your pick” videos in the next two weeks leading up to the Superbowl.

The History of the Super Bowl

The history of the Super Bowl starts with two things: the merging of the American Football League with National Football League, and a bouncy rubber ball.

The NFLAFL World Championship Game was created as a piece of the merger agreement between the NFL and the AFL in 1966.

During the negotiations between the NFL and the AFL, Kansas City Chief owner, Lamar Hunt, thought of the name “Super Bowl” for the Championship game, after observing his daughter playing with her toy Super Ball. Hunt only meant the name to be a stop-gap until the powers that be could think of something better. Not having thought of one, the game was named “The NFL-AFL World Championship Game“.

The first Championship took place in 1967. With the official title being quite a mouth full, the fans as well as the media took to the short, unofficial name, Super Bowl. In 1969, the name, “Super Bowl” became official.

The Green Bay Packers won the first two Super Bowls convincingly, causing many people to question if the AFL teams could compete. The very next year, the New York Jets upset the Baltimore Colts for the AFL’s first Super Bowl Title. The Chiefs won the 4th Super Bowl, evening the record at 2-2.

In 1970, the NFL and AFL merged into one combined league with two conferences, which resembles today’s National Football League. Three NFL Teams joined the 10 AFL teams forming the AFC (American Football Conference). The remaining 13 teams from the old NFL formed the NFC (National Football Conference).

Since the construction of the combined league, former AFL teams have won 10 Super Bowls while original NFL teams have taken 23. Two Super Bowls have been won by teams created after the merger.

The Winner of each Super Bowl receives the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named after Vince Lombardi, the great coach for the Green Bay Packers who led his team to victory in each of the first two Super Bowls. Following his death, the trophy was named prior to Super Bowl V in his honor.
