Great Weekend for Stafford Drivers

Ryan Posocco

Kyle Casagrande

The excitement started Friday night at Stafford Motor Speedway when Kyle Casagrande took home his fourth win of the season in the Dare Stock feature. He worked his way through field as he started 10th. Also, 5-time Late Model series champion Ryan Posocco passed fellow Staffordite Woody Pitkat to pick up his first win of the season. Ryan is currently in first place in this years’ standings as well.
Not only did Woody finish second in the Late-Model race Friday night but he picked up a tenth place finish Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the Whelan Modified Tour race. It was a great top ten finish as Woody picked off car after car after starting 22nd. Also in New Hampshire, Charles Lewandoski finished 22nd in the Nationwide Series race. It was an impressive finish for the rookie driver in a race won by NASCAR great Kyle Busch.

Stafford’s Charles Lewandoski racing in Richmond

Charles Lewandoski

Stafford native Charles Lewandoski will be racing again this Friday night in the Nationwide Series in Richmond. He will be driving the Go Green #39 in the Bubba Burger 250 at Richmond International Speedway this Friday @ 7:30pm, televised on the Speed Channel. Chalew got his start right here at our very own Stafford Motor Speedway being the youngest driver to record a feature win at the age of 16 back in 2002. Despite his busy schedule, he took a few minutes to answer a few questions for me.

Kurt: “So far this year you’ve finished in the top 25 both times you’ve raced the complete race, what is your goal for this weekend in Richmond?”

Chalew: “Really, the main goal is to have a smooth and uneventful weekend and finish in the top 20. Any time you go on the track your goal is to win the race, but I think we’d be very happy with a top 20 finish.”

Kurt: “Have you ever raced at Richmond before?”

Chalew: “No. It’s a little tricky from what I’ve been told, but there are some similarities to tracks I’ve raced in the past, so I will try to piece together my experiences from two or three other tracks and that should help alittle.”

Kurt: “What makes Richmond different from the other races you’ve raced this year?”

Chalew: “It is a short track, anything under one mile is considered a short track, and the other races were a similar distance but obviously the shorter track has more laps. On the shorter track the driver has more input, on the bigger tracks has more to do with the car. I think it will be easier than my first time racing at California, which is two miles, because I’ve raced at short tracks all my life.”

Kurt: “You have a lot of support here in your home state. As you know racing kicks off this weekend in Stafford with the 40th Annual Spring Sizzler. Do you have any predictions?”

Chalew:”Sure, I’m hoping for Kyle Casagrande to win the Dare Stock, Limited Late Model, Cory (Casagrande). Ryan Posocco or Magnum Mike(Bennett) to win the Late Model. Ted Christopher to win the SK and Shayne Prucker to win SK Light. And I think Bobby Santos III is going to win the tour race.”

Kurt: “Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule and good luck Friday night.”

Chalew: “Thank you, and I’m going to try to make it home this weekend to see Kyle and Cory race, maybe I’ll see you down at the track.”

This week Rick Casagrande was gracious enough to invite me up to Casagrande Motorsports to check out there new Limited Late Model car that will be racing at Stafford Motor Speedway this season. I caught up with Cory Casagrande while I was up there and he answered a few questions for me. I also stopped by Bosco’s Market & Deli to get a sponsor’s perspective on things. Local business owners should seriously consider sponsoring a local driver here in Stafford. Please watch the video below and hit this link and tell me who’s going to win this weekend—–> Vegas Race Poll .

Charles Lewandoski (Chalew) Interview

Charles Lewandoski

I was fortunate enough to get in touch with Stafford’s own Charles Lewandoski via cell phone today. He was gracious enough to answer a few questions for me. He will be driving for Nationwide series race team TriStar Motorsports. We will be following him throughout the year and monitoring his progress. It’s great to see one of our local kids get an opportunity to showcase his skills on a national level. Here’s what he had to say after I asked him a few questions.

Me: “You have raced in 3 Nationwide series events in the past, how many races are on your schedule this year?”

Chalew: “There are 34 races in the Nationwide series and we have ten races scheduled but in racing everything changes by the hour. The team will be working hard every week so that we have the opportunity to race in more.”

Me: “What is your schedule like this week?”

Chalew: “We traveled all day today. Thursday is NASCAR tech day. Friday we have two practice sessions and Saturday morning (Pacific time) is qualifying. Saturday afternoon is the race. I will be spending a lot of time at the track with the team.”

Me: “At Phoenix, how fast will you be going when you hit top speed?”

Chalew: “It’s similar to New Hampshire, I would say about 150 mph, maybe a little faster. The average race speed is around 120 mph.”

Me: “What would you consider a successful week in Phoenix?”

Chalew: “We have great people and great cars but we are not a (Sprint) Cup affiliated team and they win a majority of the races. I’m looking to avoid trouble and keep the car in one piece. I haven’t spent regular time in a Nationwide car so the practice sessions on friday are very important. I’d be happy with a top 20 or top 25 finish.”

Me: “What would you like to say to the people of Stafford that will be rooting you on?”

Chalew: “Thanks for your support. Every car I drive has a state of Connecticut flag on it.”

I’d like to thank Charles again for taking time out his busy schedule to talk to me. Here’s the tv schedule for this weekend, make sure you tune in and give him your support.
